- Can I change the default web browser to another browser?
Yes. to change your default search engine you simply select the icon in the search bar to open up the drop down menu that will display the other engines. Click one of these to make it your default. You can choose from Google, Yahoo, AltaVista, Bing, AOL or Ask
- How do I change the search engines parameters to either Images, Audio or Video?
If you want to the search engine to search for content such as images, video or audio, simply click on the option you want from list below the search bar. The current option is highlighted in a bold font.
- When I change my search engine the web options change, why is this?
Each search engine is set up differently. Yourport basically takes these settings and transfers them onto the YourPort homepage. Sites such as Google allows you to search for ‘web, images, audio and video’, whilst site such as Yahoo allows you to search for ‘web, images, news and video’.
- How do I make YourPort my homepage?
If you would like display Yourport when you first open your internet browser, simply select ‘make me your homepage’ from the main page. This will bring up a pop up box with the options to either ‘ make this webpage as your only homepage’ or ‘Add this webpage to your homepage tab’. make a selection then click yes.
- How do I leave feedback?
Good or bad, we are always eager to hear what you think about the site. If you feel anything needs to be improved or have an good idea please get in contact and we’ll be more that happy to help. Simply fill in our feedback form and we’ll do the rest.
- Can I alter the appearance of the site?
You need to walk before you can run :)....... This will be a feature we are adding once we iron out all the current issues on the site. Once these are done, you shall be able to alter the color of the background, text and give an overall theme to the site.
- Can I change the size of the text that is displayed on the site?
You can change the overall size of the font by using the browser settings. We shall be adding this as option on the site itself in the near future.
- My settings aren’t saved when I return to the site, why is this?
Check to see whether the computer you are using has its cookies enabled. YourPort uses friendly cookies to store your setup, so next time you return to the site it remembers who you are. If these little friends turned off then all your information is lost. :(To check if cookies are turned on :1, Open up the Start Menu on your computer2, Click on the ‘Control Panel’ icon.3, Once this is loaded double click the ‘Internet Options’ link.4, This will bring up a popup box with several tabs. Select the ‘Privacy’ tab5, Then drag the vertical slider on the left of the popup until it shows ‘Medium-High’ text.6, Select ‘OK’ to accept these settingIf you cannot change these settings you may have to contact you administrator to do so.If all this fails, fill in our feedback form, telling us as much info as possible such as the name of your Operating System, Internet browser, and a step by step description of what you are seeing.. Then sit back, take a drink and leave the rest to us.
Ports
- What is a port?
A port is a simply a link to another website. A port is made up of two features, a url link and an image. each of which are fully editable. By default there are 12 editable ports on the homepage, but you can add as many or as few as you like. You can drag the ports around to lay them out as you wish, even dragging them into other tabs.
- How do I add a port?
Simply select the ‘add more ports’ button on the right hand side of the tab bar. You can then click the port to make it do what you want.
- How do I change what the website link in a port?
Move over the port you want to change and select the edit box on the near the top right of the port. this will bring up a pop up box with some basic options. Type in the website’s url into the text box and then select the ‘retrieve logo’ button to find an image. If YourPort has your sites logo in our database it will be displayed in the preview box, select the ‘Yes’ button to confirm.
- How do I add my own image to a port?
If we do not have your website's logo in our database or you would just like to add your own, select the ‘upload an image’ option from the edit port popup. Now select the ‘browse computer’ button. Find your image on your computer then select open. Your image will now be displayed in the preview image box, select ‘Yes’ to confirm this is correct.
- How do I delete a port?
Simply move the cursor to the top of the port you want deleting and then click on the grey cross near the top right of the port. but be sure, once this has been deleted there is no getting it backYou can also drag and drop the tab itself over the bin icon to the left of the tabs.
- Why can’t I delete any of the top twelve ports on my homepage?
You can delete any other port on the site except the first twelve of each tab. Why? This is to keep the tabs looking neat and tidy. No other reason really!
- Can I recover a port that I have deleted?
At the moment, no. but don't fret, we are working on a feature that stores all your deleted ports just in case you need to retrieve them sometime.But for now,.. don't worry, setting up a port only takes a few seconds.
- Can I re-size a port?
At the moment, no. The reason for this is is that the idea behind Yourport is that the site remains as simple and fresh looking as possible. We feel that by altering the sizes of each port unbalances the overall look and feel of the site. However.... as always, we are open to suggestion. So if you feel this is something you would like, just drop us some feedback and we'll see what we can do.
- Can I change the order in which the ports appear on the page?
Of course, its your site after all. Simply move the cursor over top area of a port and press your left mouse button down. keep the mouse button pressed and move in anywhere on the page, then simply release the mouse button. If you want to swap a ports position with another port, drag one over the top of the other and let go. YourPort’s magic will do the rest!. You can even drag ports into other tabs. First, make sure that you have more that one tab displayed, then drag and drop the port over the tab using the same technique as above.Also, try deleting a tab by dragging it over the bin icon on the left hand side of the tab bar. But be careful, once a tab has been deleted there is no getting it back!
- Can I drag and drop ports into other tabs?
Yes, If you want to place an already existing port into another tab simply use the drag and drop technique to move the port from one tab to another.
Tabs
- What is a tab?
Basically, A tab is a page within a page. Yourport uses tabs so that you can easily categorize the ports into ‘easy to find’ pages.For example,.. you can add all your ‘news’ sites onto one tab called news, or maybe you want to add all them important ‘sports’ sites onto a sports tab. The choice is yours!Each tab can have as many or as few ports as you wish.
- How do I add more tabs?
There are two ways in which you can add tabs. Firstly, you can select the ‘add tab’ button that is located on the right hand side of the tabs. Alternatively, you you can move the cursor over the right hand side of any tab to show its dropdown menu. Once this is displayed, select the ‘add tab’ option in the list.
- How can I edit the name of a tab?
As with menu features on Yourport, there are more than one way to do this. Either double click the text on the tab itself, edit it, then click anywhere on the page to confirm your changes. Or, display the tab’s options by moving the cursor over the right-hand side of the tab, then select the ‘rename’ options from the dropdown list.
- How do I delete a tab?
To delete a tab, either drag and drop the tab into the bin icon to the left of them or try selecting the ‘delete tab’ option from the tab‘s drop down menu.
- Can I change the color of a tab?
We understand that you may want to colorize each tab to suit your preferences. This is why we are working on this feature as part of our upgrade. Watch this space!
